Welcome to Holistic Hound!

About Holistic Hound

Holistic Hound is a natural pet store located in Berkeley, California. It is owned and operated by Heidi Hill, and her nine year old Siberian husky, Pearl. Holistic Hound specializes in natural and complementary pet care for many common problems such as allergies, separation anxiety, arthritis, fleas etc. including nutritional, herbal and glandular supplements, homeopathy, and flower essences. Believing that nutrition provides the foundation of health, Heidi also carries premium quality human-grade foods, specializing in locally sourced raw foods, bones and treats. Holistic Hound also offers a beautiful and unique selection of collars and leashes, ecologically friendly beds, toys and natural healthcare books.

Heidi spent twenty years in the corporate world in finance, human resources and sales. Holistic Hound was born in 2003 and is a blend of her two passions: animals and holistic healthcare. She is a graduate of Pacific Academy of Homeopathy in San Francisco.

Pearl is a graduate of Sirius puppy training and is the official greeter (when she's not sleeping).

Meet the Holistic Hound staff: Hannah, Kate, Katherine, Elizabeth and Kristin

Hannah: Practically raised at a barn, Hannah has always had an obsession for animals. Early exposure and years of dedication have made Hannah into an avid equestrian, dog lover, and cat tamer. A Bay Area native, Hannah not long ago returned from a brief stint on the East Coast having graduated from Mount Holyoke College. Now settled at home, Hannah's passions include photographing the outdoors, exploring Yosemite National Park, and attending great concerts across San Francisco. Her four legged family includes a Black Russian Terrier named Zasha, a black and white cat named Mitzy, and a retired Appendix Quarter Horse named Spectacle, aka. "Red Man". Hannah has been a member of the Holistic Hound team since July 2010.

Kate:  Today Kate is an Oakland resident, though she recently spent a number of years living in Brooklyn and originally hails from a sunny mountain top in Los Angeles. She graduated from Hunter College with a BA in Literature and a BA in Art focusing on photography. Her other interests include horseback riding, listening to country, folk and the blues, hiking, jewelry making, and westerns...but her truest passion will always be ANIMALS! She shares her home with a goofy Border Collie named Geraldine (aka "Deanie"), who's namesake is the late, great Townes Van Zandt's pooch. Also, an enormous orange tabby cat named Peanut Butter & Jelly with the roundest head this side of the Mississippi. And then there's her guitar slinging, harmonica tootin, foot stompin partner Brendan too! After meeting Heidi, Pearl, and the entire Holistic Hound crew she was hooked and has been inspired to partake in Heidi's goal of providing dogs and cats with the best care possible.

Katherine:  Katherine’s life is filled with animals. Her posse includes her 2 artisan terriers, Daisy and Button, and the kitties Monsieur Jules and Gentleman Jim. Daisy is a nervous girl who not only led Katherine to Holistic Hound but also into the world of Tellington Touch & then to the Small Animal Program at the Northwestern School of Animal Massage. When she isn’t doting on her critters Katherine spends her time in the kitchen making treats for humans or hanging out in the garden with her pups.

Elizabeth: Elizabeth has been employed at the Hound since 2006, and credits Heidi with completely changing her outlook on health and nutrition. When not working at the Hound or attending school, she enjoys playing with her adorable gray cat children Bitty and Stella, being a sports fanatic with her fiancé John, and hiking and camping all around the Bay Area. She would like to someday own her own barbecue restaurant. She also has a pet sitting business on the side and has taken care of many happy pets from the Holistic Hound.

Kristin: Kristin began working in the pet health food industry while living in Chicago during the summer of 2009.  Once moving to the Bay area, she wanted to continue to spread the knowledge that she already gained and tracked down Heidi Hill to land a position at Holistic Hound in February 2010.  Beyond her dedication to raw diets and holistic remedies, Kristin is the artistic director of Venture Dance Project, a modern dance company that performs throughout the Bay Area.

Olie is a seasoned member of Holistic Hound. She began greeting and charming customers in the Windy City of Chicago and continued her calling across the country at Holistic Hound.  Olie is more than happy to taste test any treats that you may be considering for your pet and be a stand-in model for outdoor apparel.
